8th Grade SHSAT Test - Day Updates and Schedule
Hello friends and families of ESMS 8th graders,
Below is a schedule and important information about the ESMS in-school administration of the specialized high school test on Wednesday, January 27.
Students will be assigned to test in classrooms observing social distancing guidelines. There will be no more than ten students per classroom. Although the heat will be on, the windows will be open during the exam, so students should dress in layers.
Students must wear their masks the entire time they are in the building.
All students are required to complete the DOE health screening on the 27th, before entering the building https://healthscreening.schools.nyc/. Cohort D families who are unfamiliar with that screening can follow the link, click the yellow button and read the screening questions any time.
If students are feeling unwell, are in quarantine, or would otherwise not pass the morning health screening, PLEASE DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL for the test. Email us regarding a make-up date in the future.
To help promote the health of our community, I strongly recommend you take your child for COVID testing, allowing time for the results to arrive before the morning of the test. This will ensure your child can accurately answer the screening questions that allow for building entry. We do not need students to submit results to us.
Please be aware that there are new guidelines regarding recent travel to NY from a country with a CDC health alert level 2 or higher or US state or territory other than New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Vermont. Travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours wishing to test-out of the mandatory 10-day quarantine:
must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York;
must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days; and
must obtain another COVID test on day 4 of their quarantine. If both tests come back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.
Please make sure your students bring the following:
❏ Test ticket (We can provide one if it is not possible for you to print it from MySchools.)
Please DO NOT bring: Calculators, Apple watches, other electronic devices.
Students with extended time accommodations will have a 15 minute break after 180 minutes. At this time, they can eat lunch: either a school-provided lunch or one brought from home (no glass or metal utensils). After lunch, students will have a break every 90 minutes. After the minimum required time of 180 minutes, students can sign themselves out and leave when they have completed their tests.
